Hello, my name is Austin Cole, and I am the fictional General Manager for THE Boston Celtics for the 2020-2021 NBA Season. I want to get a deal done for your player, Clint Capela. Oh, what’s that? You have some questions for me regarding a possible trade? I’ll do my best to answer all of your questions in detail, but first, might I say I love your suit! Let’s sit down and talk about a trade, what do you say?

Question #1: Why do you want Clint Capela?

Of course, of course. Let me answer your question, with a question. Why wouldn’t we want Capela? He’s the perfect rim-running, shot-blocking, ally-oop-catching Center that would be very good for our offense going forward. It should come to you as no surprise that I’m calling you after Capela’s rare triple-double with blocks. Not to mention that he’s just a few days removed from a career high in rebounds (26!) It isn’t a secret that we’ve had some trouble with rebounding and shot blocking this year. We haven’t really figured out what to do with our big men. Tristan Thompson has played an important role, but I think he’d be a better energy guy, coming off the bench. Daniel Theis has done a good job this season as well, but we’re looking for explosive players to remain threats on the floor while Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kemba Walker run the offense. Robert Williams is a really good, young prospect, but I’d rather him learn from someone like Clint Capela, due to their skill set, and Tacko Fall is a good player as well, but he has his limitations. Clint Capela would be a great piece for what we have going on in Boston, and I want to make a deal with you.

Question #2: Why should we trade him to you?

I’m glad you asked. You have a good thing going on in Atlanta, I think. Trae Young is really starting to come into his own, your young guys are taking big strides in their game, and you have some savvy vets like former Celtic Rajon Rondo. The thing that I think would benefit your organization with this trade would be the issue you have with John Collins. Collins obviously wants a bigger role on the team, and if you were to deal Capela to us, there would be more room on the floor for Collins to operate and show what he can do for your team. You and I both know how important and talented that Collins is, so I think it would be best for us right now, and you in the long run to move on from Capela. You’d have more spacing on the floor for Trae Young, Bogdan Bogdanovic when he comes back, Kevin Huerter, and the rest of your young core. We have among the most assets and talent that you could get in a trade. You may be able to find more draft picks somewhere, but if you want  more pieces to add to your team this year, we are your ideal trade partner.

Question #3: What are you not willing to give up?

Ah, yes. Very important question. I think it should go without saying that Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are untouchable. The same way that Trae Young is untouchable for you. I also think that Kemba Walker is a valuable piece for us. You’d have to offer us draft picks if you wanted Kemba. Lastly, Marcus Smart is non-negotiable. He is the heart and soul of our defense, and we need him to get to the level we want to be at. Everyone else is basically on the table.

Question #4: What are you willing to offer?

Like I said earlier, I think that we have a lot to offer you, not only for your present, but your future too. I’m willing to give you back Daniel Theis. You get a Center back so you don’t lose too much from a position standpoint. He won’t take shots from anyone on the team, and John Collins will still be able to show what he can do because he’ll make up for the offense that Capela brought to your team. Not to mention that he is on an expiring contract, so next year if you decide to not bring him back, you have more cap room. I’d also like to offer Romeo Langford, Carsen Edwards, and Tremont Waters. Romeo Langford has had injury issues, yes. However, he is almost ready to come back from his wrist injury, and when he is on the floor he has proved to be a reliable slasher, and dependable defender. With Carsen Edwards, he is a spark plug scorer, and someone who would thrive in your system. We’ve seen before that he has the ability to get hot quickly, and with a teammate like Trae Young, I think you could have a Lou Williams-type player on your hands. With Tremont Waters, you won’t get the scoring like you will the Edwards, but you will get a steady hand in running the offense while Trae or Rondo are not on the floor. On top of those players, I am willing to give you our first round draft pick this year, along with second round picks this year, in 2022, and 2023. In total, we’d be willing to give you four players, one first round draft pick, and three second round picks to get this done. I’ll obviously need to use some of the Gordon Hayward Trade Exception to get this done, but I believe that this is worth it.
