Last night, in San Francisco, the Boston Celtics took on the Golden State Warriors, where we saw the Celtics take a four point win. Steph Curry came out and did his thing like usual. dropping 38 points, 11 rebounds, and dished out 8 assists. For the Celtics, Jayson Tatum had 27 points and 9 rebounds. I watched the game last night, and for a Celtics fan, it was much closer than I would have wanted, but in the end, the C’s got the win, and all is well in the world.
After the game was over, Steve Kerr was asked about Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and boy oh boy did he give C’s Nation something to gush about. For those that didn’t know, a couple of years ago, Steve Kerr coached both Brown and Tatum for Team USA for the FIBA World Cup, so he got to see up close and personally how good both of these players could be, and now are. Kerr went on to say the following about the young duo:
“Both guys are the modern archetype of what we’re all [NBA teams] looking for. What makes them even better is their human qualities, their work ethic, the chemistry they generate on a team, they’re fun guys to coach, fun to play with… it’s a good combination.”
It’s one thing to hear this kind of stuff from your own coaching staff, but when a coach, from a different conference, who has seen first hand as a player and coach what excellence looks like, it’s like Christmas morning. Fans get in a habit of believing that their players can conquer the league, and are often wrong. I know personally I’ve put enough hope to fill an arena with the hope I had for James Young back in the day. With the Jays, it is totally different. These two are THE future of the league. Fast, long, athletic, the ability to score, to play defense, to make plays for other teammates. They have it all. The future sure does look bright for the C’s.
I’m happy that we live in a time in league history where it is commonplace to praise other players who aren’t on your team. I think that it is a positive for the entire league, coaches, players, and fans alike. I very much appreciate what Steve Kerr said about the Jays. Again, out of all the coaches in the league, Steve Kerr is among the most qualified to know talent when he sees it. I’m excited for the future that the C’s have, and hopefully what Steve Kerr said will only continue to prove true.
