Tonight should be really exciting and fun to watch. This is the moment that Lavar Ball has been waiting for his whole life. For the first time in the NBA, Lonzo will take on his younger brother LaMelo on ESPN at 7:30pm est. I know I’ll be glued to my TV or phone to watch the whole thing, and hopefully you will be too.

Not only will we have brother vs. brother, but we’ll have a matchup between two plucky underdog teams that have been fun to watch this season. The Pelicans play a high paced style of basketball, they get up and down the floor, and Zion Williamson is just so fun to watch. If the players on the floor are struggling, you can literally just throw the ball to Zion and he will go and make a play for you, whether it’s making the basket or drawing a foul. Brandon Ingram is playing really well after his Most Improved Player nod last season, and Lonzo has been pretty consistent with 13/4/4 a night for the Pelicans. Stan Van Gundy has a promising young squad on his hands, and I’m sure he and the players love it. The Pelicans are 4-4 going into tonight and have shown some real promise for their postseason hopes. They have some growing to do, sure, but I’ve had my eye on this team since the Anthony Davis trade, and they continue to impress me.

Charlotte is no slouch either. They come into tonight’s game at 3-5, and they all just know how to play basketball. LaMelo is coming along very nicely with basically 12/5/5 a night, Gordon Hayward is a few days removed from a career high, and Devonte Graham and Terry Rozier, although streaky to say the least, have shown this year that they are real scoring threats and you must respect them. Charlotte moves the ball well, they like to run out in transition, and they look good doing it. I can’t tell you how many highlights I’ve seen this year just from the Charlotte Hornets, and I can tell you that I don’t mind it at all. With the veteran leadership that Hayward brings to this team, I’m looking for Charlotte to make the jump into a team that can fight for a playoff series, rather than getting bounced in four games.

Tonight is one of those nights that will just be fun to watch for multiple reasons, but I know the attention will be on the Ball Brothers. The first time they get matched up together, the first 1v1 they’ll have, the defense they’ll try to play. It’ll be just like in their back yard or practice at Chino Hills. I’m happy for the Ball family, not only having two of their sons in the league, but to have that game on national television for all of us to enjoy. Tonight will be fun, so get your popcorn ready and tune into ESPN at 7:30pm est.
