Does anyone know what’s happening in Detroit right now? Like, I know what happened this off-season. It seemed like they punted on the entire season when they signed 29389 big men and nothing else, and their season didn’t start out great. It isn’t getting any better either.

Right now the Pistons are 14th in the Eastern Conference, sitting at 5-14. Blake Griffin has not been himself this season, having career lows across the board. If you look at the Top 3 stat leaders in each category for the Pistons, you wouldn’t even know that Griffin plays in Detroit anymore. Derrick Rose is doing Derrick Rose things, but there are rumors that he’s going to be dealt before the trade deadline this year. The Pistons have some interesting pieces like Killian Hayes, but he is currently injured, and I personally like Josh Jackson as a player, even though his stats aren’t eye popping. The only real bright spot for the team this year is Jerami Grant who is averaging basically 24/6/3 a game. There isn’t anything to look forward to this season for the Pistons, and for some odd reason, they are winning games. Not a lot of games, mind you, but they are winning games against teams they have no business beating.

This odd winning stat first started, unfortunately, against the Celtics. No big deal, I thought at the time. It was early in the season, and anything can happen. The Pistons lost their next three games, and I thought everything was back to normal. Then they beat a surprisingly decent Suns team in overtime. Then they beat the Heat, although the Heat have been struggling this year with their best players missing time this season for a plethora of reasons. Then they knocked off the 76ers who are at the top of the Eastern Conference, and have a MVP candidate in Joel Embiid. Then finally, they defeated a Laker team at their full power. LeBron and Co. could not get it done against Blake Griffin, who admittedly had a vintage game, and the Pistons. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen a team who is objectively bad win this many games against upper-tier teams in the league. For whatever reason, the Pistons come to play when the competition is higher. I’m not sure why, because I think the goal at this point is to tank, but I digress.

I wouldn’t expect the Pistons to do anything spectacular this year. I’d more so expect them to get the #1 pick in the draft next year, but they do seem to be trying. What’s the saying? A broken clock is right twice a day? That seems to be the case for the Pistons this year, and I think it is kind of funny. As long as they don’t beat the Celtics anymore, they can beat all the top teams they want.
