With the semi-recent news that Blake Griffin was bought out by the Pistons, and then soon signed a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, it’s easy to think that there are no other buyout market options for other title contenders to add to their roster, but oh how far from the truth we are. There are some sneaky options that are still in the realm of possibility, and I want to talk about them. Let’s jump into it.

Trevor Ariza

Who doesn’t love some Trevor Ariza, right? Ariza has had a rough go of it here lately. He was traded three or four times in the off-season, and he landed in Oklahoma City, but he hasn’t played this year. It was pretty clear that he wanted to get to a contender, and that just hasn’t happened yet. He hasn’t produced any stats this year, but if you look at his stats last year he was still able to average 11 points per game, while providing good defense, and good shooting splits. Any contender could use a versatile wing, and there are hardly any better than Trevor Ariza.

Hassan Whiteside

Former Marshall standout hasn’t had the year he wanted in Sacramento. With the team going younger and quicker, he’s had some trouble being able to find a stable role in the rotation. However, in his super limited action, he’s still been able to average 8 points, 6 rebounds, and a block per game in just under 14 minutes per game. The type of team that he goes to will be crucial. He won’t be a good fit in Brooklyn, he may not be ready for a homecoming and go back to Miami, but I think a team like the Lakers or Clippers could suit him well. All teams need reliable defense, and for limited stints, Whiteside brings that in droves.

PJ Tucker

Yes. I know. He’s 35 years old, and there isn’t a lot outside of corner three’s that he’d be able to bring offensively, but there is no doubt that he’s been able to play the small-ball five better than anyone in the league. Just last night at the time of writing this, the Rockets announced that they are looking to trade or buyout Tucker, so he’s played his last game in Houston. His versatility would help any team in the league, and even if he isn’t bought out, he could still be traded for cheap assets.
