This is one of our last tune-up games before we face some real Power 5 competition, so I’m just hoping I don’t have anything to complain about. Through the first 8 minutes? For the first time this year, I have zero notes. We’re shooting well, we’re forcing them into turnovers, and we have A LOT of energy.
I also really appreciate that Coach Hodge is still experimenting 11 games into the year. Early on we trusted Chance Moore to have the ball in his hands, and he has not disappointed. He started off hot scoring 6 points, including a thunderous breakaway dunk, two rebounds, and a steal. Most importantly for the future of the season, he looked really comfortable with the ball in his hands. We only have 3 ball handlers in Jasper Floyd, Honor Huff, and Amir Jenkins, so it’s nice to see another steady hand that can control the flow of the game.
Little Rock put up a little bit of a fight towards the end of the first half, but it was just too little too late. Honor Huff came out hotter than fish grease and ended the half with 15 points and shot 5/7 from deep. Truly unconscious. There were other guys who chipped into the ass beating as well, but it really was just Honor and the Honorettes for the most part.
The good guys ended the first half up 47–23 and we had all of the team stats go in our favor. We shot 59% from the field and 53% from 3 (thanks Honor,) we won the assist battle 12–3, won the rebounding battle 19–15, and we both forced more turnovers and had more points off those turnovers. I think that Coach Hodge heard my birthday was coming up because I really don’t have anything to complain about in the first half. Hopefully we can continue this kind of play for another 20 minutes.
I’m a pretty negative person by nature. For my online “persona” I try to be overwhelmingly positive, but sometimes I just can’t help it. That being said, I would have to be really nit picking to find something to complain about in this game. Even Treysen Eaglestaff didn’t piss me off. He had one hell of a second half, and could potentially get out of my dog house one day. It’s not today, but maybe one day.
Overall, I really feel like this was domination on both sides of the ball the entire way. We won the game 90–58, and I really wasn’t concerned for one single second, which has to be some kind of personal best. As for the Big 3, I’ve already named dropped them in this piece so let’s not dilly dally.
The Roundball Big 3 of the Game:
Honor Huff: 24 points, 8/11 3PT
Chance Moore: 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal
Treysen Eaglestaff: 23 points, 5/10 3PT
We’ve got a real test against Ohio State coming up on Saturday. I’m a little nervous, but this will be a good litmus test as to how we’ll fare in Big 12 play. For better or for worse, I’ve got to see how we do against the Buckeyes. I love you, Dad. I miss you. See you Saturday.
