I’ve had about 11 hours to mourn my loss, and I think I’m ready to talk about it. If you’re brand new to me and my socials, this may be confusing to you so I’ll try to explain. Have you ever heard of The Dario Saric Girl? Well I’m The Jevon Carter Guy. Even the shortest amount of time searching through my articles here, my YouTube channel, or my Twitter account will be evident of this fact so you can see why I would need some time to process.

After Shams gave me the bad news that Jevon was going to be waived by his hometown Chicago Bulls my mind raced to what teams could use his services. Now I won’t sugarcoat it; he’s never going to be an All-Star, he won’t win DPOY, and he may never get a chance to be a real starter in this league again, but there are plenty of reasons to sign him and plenty of teams that need a guy just like him. Let’s just jump into it because if these GMs are smart they’ll have signed him before I’m able to hit publish on this post.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors this year are… bad? Underwhelming? Old? They’ve had a rough go of it this year, and despite Steph Curry’s brilliance at 37 years old, if you can relieve him of some stress I think it would be in your best interest to do so. To be clear, I think that De’Anthony Melton has been a really solid back up PG for the Warriors this year, but depending on the day, he may be better suited to a SG spot because Podz and Moody have been… inconsistent to say the least.

Jevon Carter brings a defensive grit that this team has lost after the Jimmy Butler injury, he’s an ELITE catch and shoot guy who has a career 3P% of 38% (41% this season albeit in limited minutes), and with this team potentially moving a lot of youth to acquire someone at the deadline like Giannis you need reliable, cheap, and veteran talent to bolster the roster so I believe that the Warriors would be a natural fit.

Houston Rockets

I think that the Houston Rockets’ “Point Guard Problem” has been wildly overblown by the media this year. Amen Thompson is a great on-ball creator and facilitator despite the fact that he’s shooting 21% (ew) from deep, and Reed Sheppard has been a reliable spark plug scorer off the bench and is a much better defender than what I think people want to give him credit for (with the exception of the young player mistakes you seen from game to game).

That being said, I think that Jevon could easily bridge the gap between those two players. Third on the depth chart for the Rockets is JD Davidson, who for the record I think is a Celtics legend, but he hasn’t had a lot of real minutes to to show what he can do. The Rockets, much like the Warriors, need a stable veteran hand to come in and bolster the roster for a potential deep playoff run. The shooting prowess and defensive tenacity are just an added bonus.

Denver Nuggets

Shoutout to The Dropstep Network; you do this for me and I promise you that you’ll get 10 billion subscribers overnight. The Denver Nuggets have had a bit of an injury bug over the past couple of months: Christian Braun is out, Jokic went down for a wile, Aaron Gordon is going to be reevaluated in a couple of weeks, and even Jamal Murray is listed as day-to-day. When you have a veteran team like this, injuries are bound to happen and to their credit, the young guys like Peyton Watson and Jalen Pickett have really stepped up in the absence of some of their core guys. There is no such thing as too much depth, though.

Jevon Carter has been remarkably healthy his entire career, and luckily for the next team that picks him up, he’s been put on ice for basically three years and he’s ready to go. When you’re a championship caliber team you need a guy on your team who’s out to prove a point, and he’s out there waiting on your call right now.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Admittedly, I said this one time to my buddy Riley as a bit because he knows about my undying love for Jevon. The more I thought about it though, the better it sounded in my head. The Point Guard room for the Timberwolves isn’t amazing; I’ve seen worse for sure but it isn’t anything to write home about. Mike Conley is getting older, Donte DiVincenzo isn’t a true facilitator (honestly I think he’d be better coming off the bench and running around screens as a sparkplug scorer like he did in Golden State), and Rob Dillingham just… doesn’t play minutes. Bones Hyland has had games where he’s really played well but he’s also suited best as a 6th man.

Enter: Jevon Carter. His defensive identity would mesh perfectly with the rest of the starting lineup, he’s low maintenance so he wouldn’t take shots away from Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle, or even Jaden McDaniels, and just think about a starting lineup of Jevon, Ant, JMac, JR, and Gobert. Who’s scoring on that team? NO ONE. It also doesn’t hurt that Jevon would be a much needed shooting outlet when JR and Ant get doubled.

Boston Celtics

You know I had to do it to ’em. Let’s point out the obvious here: the Celtics are playing well, Payton Pritchard and Derrick White are meshing incredibly well as a starting backcourt, and Anfernee Simons has had a really solid season coming off the bench. Outside of that, our 3rd string PG is Max Shulga who I’m sure could be a fine rotational piece (if you don’t believe me check out the VCU tape) but he’s just not ready to be a true backup yet.

Jevon would be ready to step into a backup role where, again, he wouldn’t disrupt the offense we’ve cultivated (if ANYTHING he’d be a great Mazzulla Ball player due to his defense and shooting ability), he would add to the bench unit’s defense with guys like Jordan Walsh, Josh Minott, and Amari Williams, AND it would make me really happy which is arguably the most important thing. I think it would be a little weird to see him in a #12 jersey instead of a single digit number like we’ve seen throughout his career (the Celtics have too many retired numbers but don’t get me started), but for the future of this team and our chances next year I think Jevon Carter would be an excellent addition.

Are you as sad as I am about Jevon Carter being waived? No? Just me? Alright then.

If you have any thoughts about who should sign him drop me a comment, and be sure to check out all my socials I mentioned before to see how many times I’ve tweeted the name “Jevon Carter.”

Be kind. Tell somebody you love them.
